The Radon Council

Aurora become a member of The Radon Council

22 February 2023

Aurora is pleased to announce that it has become a full member of The Radon Council and attended Council for its members’ meeting on 20 February 2023. The Radon Council is a non-profit organisation set up to set out standards and provide training and education on the risks and control measures relevant to radon-222 (radon) gas.

Radon is a natural gas formed from the decay of uranium-238 which is present in the ground all around us as shown on the UK Radon Map.

Employers have a legal duty to consider the risk from radon gas and where an employer is based in a Radon Effected Area or undertakes work in below ground areas then that employer should also undertake radon monitoring. Where the results of this monitoring show that the employer is undertaking work in atmospheres containing radon gas at annual average concentrations exceeding 300 Bq/m3 then the employer must comply with the requirements of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17). This will include the requirements to appoint a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA), undertake a radiation risk assessment and to notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

As an HSE approved RPA body Aurora has the right qualified and experienced RPAs to support its clients in achieving and demonstrating compliance with IRR17.

Aurora’s membership with The Radon Council supports Aurora’s continued dedication to being an industry leader in radiation protection. If you require any support in the field of radiation protection, radon related or otherwise, then please don’t hesitate to contact our team.
