Radiation and Environmental Safety at Andreeva Bay

Andreeva Bay was the site of a nuclear facility that provided support for nuclear powered submarines during the era of the Soviet Union, and stored spent nuclear fuel. Aurora’s Glenn Hardcastle has received recognition for his radiation and environmental safety contribution there.

Defining Radiation And Environmental Safety

During its use as a storage base for spent nuclear fuel from Cold War submarines, Andreeva Bay has had a number of transformations in an attempt to keep up with deteriorating facilities. Now, it is the centre of a multinational cooperation to clean up the area, headed by the Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership (NDEP).

Eliminating Radiation Legacy

For his contribution to radiation and environmental safety at Andreeva Bay, Aurora’s Glenn Hardcastle has received an award by Vernadsky Order from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The award is sponsored by the Non-Governmental Environmental Fund after V.I.Vernadsky, who is considered a founder of radiogeology.
