Digitised Marie Curie Notebook now Available to View Online

The digitisation of Marie Curie’s notebook is complete and available to view online.

Back in 2014 Aurora carried out monitoring at the Wellcome Collection of a notebook originally belonging to the renowned scientist Marie Curie. It was identified that the notebook, dated 1899-1902, was contaminated with radium-226.

In 1903, the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Marie and her husband Pierre for their study of radiation. Marie Curie also won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1911 for the discovery of Radium.

Aurora has supported the Wellcome Collection to ensure proper handling and storage of the notebook, including how the contents of the notebook could be safely digitised and added to the Wellcome Collection’s online library.

The digitisation process is now complete, and you can view all the pages within the notebook for free – without having to wear protective equipment! Discover these notes and diagrams which signify the very beginnings of our understanding of radioactivity.
