Aurora Appointed to Support Sizewell C Construction

12 July 2022

The rising cost of energy has demonstrated that the ability of a nation to generate its own homegrown low carbon energy is more important than ever.  As outlined in the UK Government’s 2022 Energy Security Strategy nuclear power will form a key part of the strategy’s target to generate 95% of electricity from low carbon sources by 2030.

Sizewell C is a proposed 3.2-gigawatt power station which would provide reliable low-carbon electricity which doesn’t rely on the weather, generating the equivalent of enough low-carbon electricity to supply six million homes, and will work alongside renewables to reduce the UK’s carbon emissions.

Aurora is delighted to announce that if Sizewell C achieves all the necessary planning approvals, it will be supporting the construction of the project following the appointment of its Radiation Protection Advisers (RPA) by SZC Co. Aurora will be working with SZC Co to ensure demonstrable legal compliance with all activities on site involving third parties and the special challenges which can arise with a large construction project next to an operating nuclear power plant.

Pete Bryant, Sizewell C’s Head of Environment, Decommissioning & Radiation Safety commented “The appointment of Aurora HP as our RPA is a key step as our project moves forward. Aurora’s strong background in Radiation Protection both within the Construction Industry and the Nuclear Industry will provide invaluable support to Sizewell C going forward.”
