Case Study
GlaxoSmithKline
GSK required their sites at The Frythe, Beckenham and Harlow to undergo radiological survey to assess their radiological status.
The Challenges
To undertake radiological surveys to establish the radiological status of GSK’s site at Beckenham, The Frythe, and Harlow. Then to carry out radiological decommissioning to leave all three sites with no future radiological restrictions.
The Tasks
- Extensive survey work undertaken including the radiological surveying and sampling of multi-storey laboratory buildings, internal ventilation and drainage systems, roof areas around ventilation stacks and outside drains.
- Following the decommissioning work all wastes were disposed of in accordance with the site’s EPR10 permits.
- Subsequent decommissioning work involved dismantling and removal of fume cupboards and their ventilation systems, contaminated laboratory fixtures and fittings and a number of internal drainage systems.
The Results
All three site were effectively radiological surveyed and decommissioned to leave them free from any radiological restrictions.
“The services provided by Aurora have been of an exemplary standard. They are technically very sound, behave with integrity, are sensitive to both the needs of the customer and the over-arching regulatory requirements, are effective communicators, and are pro-active in suggesting cost-effective solutions to a range of radiation protection problems. I would have no hesitation in recommending their services.”
