Remediation And Decommissioning

Aurora is the leading independent UK provider of quality remediation and decommissioning services, serving some of the country’s biggest companies across every sector with the radiation protection they need to operate safely and legally.

When developing land, it is important to survey the site, in order to establish the condition of the land and determine the presence of any radioactive contaminants. In the event that significant radiation levels are detected, it is the job of professional radiation protection services to prepare a plan for remediation and decommissioning. By making your site safe we release its true value, enabling you to resume operations in the knowledge that your premises are both safe and legal.

Aurora can provide all remediation and decommissioning needs from initial desk study to survey and partial or total building demolition. See case studies for previous examples of our decommissioning projects.

Case Study: Aptuit

To undertake independent radiological surveys and sampling to establish the radiological status of the Aptuit site with respect to areas previously used for work with radioactive materials, including tritium and carbon-14.

During the radiological survey and sampling, and subsequent decommissioning, of the Aptuit, Edinburgh facilities, I found Aurora to be very effective, professional and customer focussed. I was regularly updated during all stages of the work. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Aurora’s Radiological & decommissioning Team for facilities that require radiological clean-up.

Andrew McKerracher, Senior Director Procurement, Aptuit.

As the leading independent UK remediation and decommissioning specialists, we have worked across all sectors, so you can be sure that whatever line of work you’re in, we have experience in your area. As a result of our wide experience levels and industry expertise, we have carried out a large range of work, including radiological, chemical, and biological hazards.

Our approach to remediation and decommissioning projects begins with desk study, a comprehensive survey, and building characterisation work. This enables us to produce a personalised plan tailored to you and your site. Decommissioning may involve building a number of containment structures and removing contaminated materials using a variety of techniques. The waste arisings are sampled to ensure the most appropriate waste stream is used for each material, for the most efficient service.
