  • AURPO: Guidance on the safe use of lasers in education and research.
  • Ministry of Defence: Military Laser Safety, JSP series.

Laser Safety Officer (LSO) course

This one day training course is designed for individuals who will be appointed as Laser Safety Officers (LSOs), or as a refresher for those already appointed to this role. It is our anticipation that on successful completion of this course the delegates will have obtained the required information and knowledge to carry out the role of LSO effectively.

• Practical control measures (hierarchy of controls, including PPE)
• Incidents, accidents and contingency plans

Laser safety calculations course

This one day course is designed for individuals that are required to carry out laser safety calculations, such as Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) values, Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance (NOHD), and the determination of a suitable scale number (LB) number for laser protective eyewear. The course will include practical exercises and worked examples.

These two courses go hand in hand and run on consecutive days, forming our “Advanced Laser Safety Officer” course. So if your role involves laser safety and carrying out laser safety calculations, you would benefit from attending the advanced course.

In addition, Aurora provides bespoke training courses for Management who are in the health and safety chain, and have a key role to play with regards to compliance with laser safety. These staff often do not use lasers, but do have an interest in the legislative requirements, and a role to play in securing compliance with legal obligations.

 

Courses can also be provided on the safe use of broadband optical sources in the workplace.
