Ionising Radiation Safety Training

A holistic course that covers a comprehensive range of Ionising Radiation Safety Aspects.

Ionising Radiation Safety Training Course Overview

Aurora has developed a number of training courses covering all aspects of ionising radiation safety. All Aurora’s ionising radiation safety courses initially focus on subjects such as the physical properties of the relevant ionising radiation, how it interacts with matter, and the biological effects of exposure. Training often then focuses on the practical requirements of radiation protection such as the implementation of control measures, and crucially the management of radiation protection in a workplace.

The training courses can be run at Aurora’s or client’s premises, and customised for the client’s needs or particular use of ionising radiation. Aurora’s ionising radiation safety courses include (but are not limited to):

  • Nature and units of ionising radiation
  • Biological effects & associated risks
  • Restriction of exposure
  • Measurement of ionising radiations
  • Personal dosimetry
  • The Role of the Radiation Protection Supervisor and what makes a good RPS
  • The Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 & other legislation
  • Management of work with ionising radiation
  • Risk Assessments & contingency plans
  • Specific work activities such as work with activated components, accelerators, Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM), shielding design etc

These courses can be tailor made at the request of clients. Aurora also offers an open ‘Radiation Protection Awareness’ and ‘Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS)’ training courses which are a cost effective option for organisations who have only a small number of individuals who require training. Please see the Radiation Protection Awareness training and RPS course pages for more information.
