It’s business as Unusual at Aurora

These certainly are testing times for all of us. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all both in the place of work and at home. Aurora has always been about challenging ourselves to ensure that our services meet our Clients’ needs. We would like to take this opportunity to let you know that it’s business as usual (or perhaps we should start saying “Unusual”) at Aurora. We remain fully functional to provide our services remotely to our Clients. Here are some of the ways we are doing this:

Working Remotely

Our staff are now working from home

Even though we took the decision to close both our Harwell and Newcastle offices, all our staff are now working effectively from home. They are still able to respond to meet your needs. Please do not hesitate to contact your Lead Contact either by e-mail or by mobile. The Aurora Team are carrying out Client meetings, etc. using various video conferencing platforms.

RPA 24/7

As previously mentioned to our Clients who have RPA 24/7 emergency cover as part of their services, this service has not been affected and remains available for use in radiological emergencies. As a reminder, the on-call RPA will receive your message and will contact you within 15 minutes to support you. For Clients who do not use the RPA 24/7 emergency cover, please do discuss this with your Lead Contact and we would be happy to provide this to you.

Client Support

Catch up on radiation protection matters

During this period of lockdown, there is the opportunity to catch up on those radiation protection matters that need closing out or implement new ways of working. We appreciate, however, that not all our Clients are able to work from home during this period and therefore are not able to do this. We can support you through this by taking on work you can’t complete at this time; please contact your Lead Contact.

Manage compliance through virtual meetings

Due to travel restrictions for a number of Clients, we have been proactive in making sure that virtual meetings and visits are happening in place of face to face meetings. This has helped our Clients keep in touch and plan the necessary steps they have to take to manage compliance during this period without having to delay addressing those matters till a face to face meeting is possible.

Training

We have been working hard behind the scenes to make our training available online. Our scheduled courses that were due to take place in May and June have now become online courses. Our Team is also providing a number of tailored online courses to Clients in May such as the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) and Laser Safety Officer (LSO) courses.
