It’s business as Unusual at Aurora

These certainly are testing times for all of us. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all both in the place of work and at home. Aurora has always been about challenging ourselves to ensure that our services meet our Clients’ needs. We would like to take this opportunity to let you know that it’s business as usual (or perhaps we should start saying “Unusual”) at Aurora. We remain fully functional to provide our services remotely to our Clients. Here are some of the ways we are doing this:

Working Effectively

Our Harwell Office has now reopened

However, most of the Team are still working effectively from home.  We have put the appropriate measures in place to ensure the safety of our staff, both when in the office and working on client premises. We also continue to use various video conferencing platforms to support our clients when face to face meetings are not possible. Please do not hesitate to contact your Lead Contact either by e-mail or by mobile.

.

RPA 24/7

Our 24/7 Emergency RPA Cover service has not been affected and remains available for use in radiological emergencies. As a reminder, the on-call RPA will receive your message and will contact you within 15 minutes to support you. For Clients who do not use the RPA 24/7 emergency cover, please do discuss this with your Lead Contact and we would be happy to provide this to you.

Client Support

Hitting the ground running

As the restrictions on working practices are eased, it is a good time to get ahead of those radiation protection matters that need closing out or implementing new ways of working before we are all expected to return to business as normal. We can support you through this by taking on work you cannot complete at this time; please contact your Lead Contact who will be happy to discuss how Aurora can assist.

Manage compliance through virtual meetings

Due to travel restrictions for a number of Clients, we have been proactive in making sure that virtual meetings and visits are happening in place of face to face meetings. This has helped our Clients keep in touch and plan the necessary steps they have to take to manage compliance during this period without having to delay addressing those matters till a face to face meeting is possible.

Training

We have been working hard behind the scenes to make our training available online. Our scheduled courses that were due to take place in May and June have now become online courses. Our Team is also providing a number of tailored online courses to Clients for the summer, such as the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) and Laser Safety Officer (LSO) courses. If you would like more information about our training courses, or to book yourself on to one of our online courses, which are now scheduled for the remainder of 2020, please click the link below.

Please continue to stay safe

We look forward to meeting you again as this period passes.

On behalf of the whole team at Aurora, Glenn Hardcastle,

Director, Aurora Health Physics Services

Glenn Hardcastle, Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA)
