In my role as Technical Development Manager at Aurora, I recently attended the British Medical Laser Association meeting in Solihull and the Health and Safety Executive RPA update in Manchester. These events provided a valuable opportunity to reconnect with friends and peers, exchange experiences, and reflect on the challenges we all face as radiation protection professionals. A key take away for me was the important role we have in providing clear, practical and proportionate advice that enables organisations to manage radiation risks effectively while continuing to operate safely and efficiently. We can often find ourselves operating in an environment where regulatory expectations are not always straightforward to interpret in day-to-day practice. It’s essential that we maintain a proportionate, risk-based approach in ensuring that organisations are being supported rather than hindered in carrying out safe and effective work

Part of my own role at Aurora is to take insights from discussions at these meetings and feed them back into Aurora, helping to ensure that our staff and clients are kept up to date with current thinking, guidance, and good practice across the sector. I came away from both of these events having learned a lot and with a renewed appreciation for the value of collaboration, communication, and shared expertise in supporting high standards of radiation safety across the industry.
