“Able has no hesitation in recommending Aurora to other organisations and it endorses Aurora’s declaration that it is the leading provider of radiation protection services in the UK.”

Dave Quelch, Able Instruments & Controls Ltd

“During the radiological survey and sampling, and subsequent decommissioning, of the Aptuit, Edinburgh facilities, I found Aurora to be very effective, professional and customer focused. […]. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Aurora’s radiological survey and decommissioning team for facilities that require radiological clean-up.”

Andrew McKerracher, Senior Director Procurement, Aptuit.

“The services provided by Aurora have been of an exemplary standard. They are technically very sound, behave with integrity, are sensitive to both the needs of the customer and the over-arching regulatory requirements, are effective communicators, and are pro-active in suggesting cost-effective solutions to a range of radiation protection problems. I would have no hesitation in recommending their services.”

Dr Alan S Muir, Manager Radiation Safety UK, GlaxoSmithKline

Aurora worked tirelessly to carry out radiological monitoring, surveying, sampling and subsequent decommissioning. I would have no hesitation in recommending Aurora’s Radiological & Decommissioning Team for laboratories requiring a similar service.”

Simon Rice, Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Medical Research Council

“[Aurora] were an integral part of the project team and their support was invaluable when ensuring that all work was carried out safely and in compliance with the relevant requirements.”

Mark Griffin, Projects & Facilities, Finance Manager MRC

“The Ionising and Non-Ionising Radiation Training by Aurora was an excellent course and I would recommend attending it. […]. There were plenty of opportunities to network, which is a bonus when you are new to this area.”

Lorraine Dixon CMIOSH, Health and Safety Adviser, Gateshead Council

Remediation and Decommissioning

Radiological survey and decommissioning of MRC National Institute for Medical Research

Determined the radiological status of the site and decommissioned with no future radiological restrictions, enabling the surrender of the EPR16 Permit.

Laboratory of Molecular Biology

Performed an independent radiological survey and undertook decommissioning activities at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology.

MRC – MC40 Decommissioning

Determined the radiological status of an old research cyclotron and assisted in the radiological decommissioning of the cyclotron and associated plant.

The upgrade works were completed safely and on time with the radioactive waste assessed and disposed by off-site incineration under the GSK Environmental Permit.

Radiation Safety Consultancy

Able Instruments & Controls Ltd

A large scale construction of a North Sea oil rig required the installation of close to 100 nucleonic gauges on the structure for flow, density, level, and moisture measurements.

Aptuit – Edinburgh

Completed independent radiological surveys and sampling to establish the radiological status of the Aptuit site with respect to areas previously used for work with radioactive materials, including tritium and carbon-14.

Completed radiological surveys to establish the radiological status of GSK’s site at The Frythe, Beckenham, and Harlow.

Facility Design and Testing

Laing O'Rourke Facility

Laing O’Rourke – Scotland

Shielding design of two 15 MV clinical accelerators within a limited footprint.

SIT Testing - MEWP

NHS hospital

Aurora performed shielding integrity testing using specialist neutron monitoring equipment

Providing Radiation Safety Training

Managers’ Training

Provided ionising and non-ionising radiation training for managers, and health and safety professionals. This is a case study of a specific of a course in the North East.
